Tipped for great things by Elbow’s Guy Garvey and BBC 6 Music’s Marc Riley, Low Chimes are an alt-folk band from Stroud. Following their two acclaimed EPs, released under previous name, Hot Feet, the band’s debut album is set for release in the Autumn of 2017. Singles ‘Sleepwalking’ and ‘Blood Orange’ have earned the band acclaim from the likes of The Line Of Best Fit and Clash, as well as an invitation to perform live in session on 6 Music. Already UK festival regulars, the band has appeared at Glastonbury, Green Man, Kendal Calling and many others.
Since the EPs, Low Chimes have developed a fuller sound, finding influences beyond folk, rock and blues. The core live elements remain but the introduction of synths, samples and other electronics lend the music new shades and nuances.
Layered too are Marianne’s lyrics which are often inspired by the outdoors. Natural images are woven into narratives of new beginnings and letting go of the past, but often serve as metaphors for darker themes. Solitude, anxiety and escapism provide an uneasy backdrop to otherwise hopeful messages.
“Truly nothing short of fabulous… really wonderful” – Marc Riley, BBC 6 Music
“Deliriously hypnotic” - The Line Of Best Fit
“One of my favourite things… wonderful free-form, syncopated indie-rock” - Vic Galloway, BBC Radio Scotland/BBC 6 Music
“Seriously arresting music” - Tom Robinson, BBC 6 Music
“I predict great things” – Guy Garvey, Elbow/BBC 6 Music
“…a delight. This is the sound of early Belle and Sebastian, Joni Mitchell and Laura Marling all rolled into one in a gently seductive and soothing concoction. Mellifluous sounds plucked from lead and rhythm guitar and ably enunciated by the light brush of the drums” – Supajam
“Beautifully progressive and original but with a nod to some of the greats. They are one of the best bands out there today.” – Folk Radio UK
