Loopallu Festival
Loopallu is back on Friday 28th and Saturday 29th September! When we first started Loopallu it was with the aim to give the community a last lift in the season before the long, quiet winter months. We also knew we would stand a better chance of the village embracing the festival if it wasn’t displacing existing trade. Thirteen years is a long time. Ullapool, like the rest of the Highlands, is enjoying a long overdue resurgence in visitor numbers all the way through to the late autumn. The downside of this is the limited availability of accommodation for those attending Loopallu and the worry for our future attendance numbers. However, it appears that you are a resourceful lot and one by one, during this year’s event festival goers told me that regardless of whether Loopallu continued or not, their accommodation for 2018 was booked so they would be making their annual journey to Ullapool. The levels of affection for Loopallu were highlighted this year as everyone shared stories of the number of years they have attended, the friends, future husbands and wives and festival family they have met. We are genuinely humbled and indeed overwhelmed by what our, no, your event means to you. So as long as you want to keep coming, we will try and keep putting it on. 'Loopallu is dead......long live Loopallu. In a mad world getting ever more crazed, occasionally common sense does prevail. Count me in. Forever'. Mark Radcliffe, 6Music & Radio 2
